We should ask why.

But we don't because we are afraid. Afraid of sounding ignorant, afraid of offending the other person, afraid that the answer may not be what we wanted to hear. Afraid that the answer is exactly what we thought.

We go to our shrink so that they can help us find out why we do the things we did. In the end, perhaps the fact that we don't know the answers if the same why was asked of us causes us to ask less whys of others. After all, not asking the questions makes the question go away...or does it?

thanks for the tips. we can all work on money-related goals. check out NPR's planet money podcast. they do it twice a week and they are only about 20 minutes long. i listen to them when i'm getting ready. they put current financial situations in layman's terms. LOVE planet money!

I'd like to know more about your comparative reality and the baseline on which you base your average position. Is your average really average or is it higher than average but average to you...Are you really sure you are not a rock star at anything? Are you sure your "grade" is an accurate unbiased, objective position to judge your academics? What if you were to be able to share back and communicate what you are learning in your own style, in your own way, what do you think would happen then?

I love the winter because it is the time for me to dress up and not feeling like I am sweating from head to toe. When Grizz was still at the house, I'd walk her every day, twice a day. Dogs love to jump in the snow and it is amazing to see how much fun they have with the white powder. Now Grizz has gone to Arizona with her "mom" and my house is quiet. The best connection we can make with our animal is to be with them, and walking Ari as much as you can is wonderful. When I used to walk Grizz, I find myself talking to her. To me she was not a dog but another 4-leg person. Stay warm and write us some more.

I minored in e-commerce in college, there was no "blog" then. Years later, I heard the word mentioned, by then I had been neglecting the Internet for several years. Blog, I thought, is just another fad. Something someone dreamed up and made popular on the internet; it, too, will burst like all internet bubbles. But it didn't. I took me awhile to grasp the concept of a blog. Why blog when you can write a diary, was another one of my objection. So I kept on writing in my private journal.

Then it hits me: a blog is a public journal. It is a way to express one's idea, share information, in the fashion that one chooses. I no longer need to join a "forum" to discuss a topic. All my thoughts can be organized neatly into chronological order on my own blog. That's why it exists, I finally understood.

I now blog, mostly about my internal world of thoughts. No one is reading my blog but me since I have not tried to announce its existence to anyone. Yet, I feel incredibly fortunate to discover your blog. I would have never run into some of the incredibly interesting links that you listed here. Thank you for blogging, when can we read more?

Much need to be said about this blog. I, too, share this feeling of nostalgia for many places, things, people. Though the memory left behind were a complex mixed bag, much of the reason for leaving something was due to the negatives of the bag. However, as you wrote, there are many other things mixed in as well. Sometimes, simply being somewhere for a long time, or many times leaves you feeling sad when leaving.

Somehow, I always find myself in western Europe in the winter. The grey sky of Hannover, the constant rainning of Dusseldorf, the wet pavement and muddy parking lot of Venlo and forever cold and cloudy atmosphere of Arhus are the most depressing sight I have experienced (aside from winter in Seattle.) Yet, while walking outside in the heat of the Salt Lake valley, one immediately recalls these European days. I wanted to get back there and now I am here, I wonder why I ever-so-eagerly wanted to be here?

Emotions, the irregular beat of your heart, the rush of blood to the head, the impulses drive much of our decisions. Often, the analysis afterwards, like your blog, give some reasoning-the cooling down phase to our thoughts, yet the biological response are so strong, it often overwelms any logic. That's why we blog. We "are" reasonable beings. Things are incomplete when we do not place that completion label on it. The blogging gives a sense of conclusion, to me at least. The trips to western Europe, much like an addiction, temporarily fix the delusional state that somehow Winter in Europe is at least memorable and unique.

I enjoy the way you write. I enjoy reading your thoughts. Your blog is thoughtfully written. There are much going on in your head, this must be a fantastic outlet for you. I can relate.

Keep writing, I am a fan.
